5-4-2017  Lots of things going on the last few years, between moving and such, but I must take time to give our faithful followers an update.  First the changes with the domain name need to be explained.
While PCFixes.com was the primary domain name for well over 2 decades we also had a matching .NET domain which just redirected users to the .COM version.  I was approached by a enterprising fellow in the UK around the first of the year, who had some good ideas for the PCFIXES.COM domain name and offered to buy it.  So I did sell that to him and wish him the best on his new version of site.
Meantime we still have the PCFIXES.NET name for the site, so please adjust your bookmarks, email addresses and such to reflect the PCFIXES.NET instead of the older .com.  Having more time now to get back into updates to the site and more conversion to the new style CMS based responsive and somewhat more modern version - you may see some changes a bit more often.  So.. the dinosaur is not quite dead and may still have some fresh things around the corner - stay tuned!

9-3-14 - The last few weeks we were not able to work on the site much due to an unexpected death in the family.  Work had started on a ebook guide to help supply users with a simple all in one source for the main content of the site - a project to work in tandem with the updates and to be synchronized with the site content so you can download it every so often, once it becomes available.  Also we are researching ways to update other parts of the site without unnecessary loss of the search engine standings and history.

7-7-14  -The Amazon store has been added to the new system, and the signup page for the free email list. The first of a basic blog setup for comments and news has been started and has its first article - about Bundleware being included on so many downloads today and how to watch for it.

Applying some of the techniques I have learned from the articles and sites shared here, I am pleased to see some results showing in what to me is a very quick timeframe on my oldest site - www.pcfixes.com.  PCFixes is a site with lots of helpful links and information to "Help You Get More From Your Computer" as the motto says there.  I started it over 20 years ago and basically have 99% ignored it the last 8 or 10 years. As I mention on the site, I am now going through a major rework to bring the site into a modern format and while I do, starting to update the site, removing the dead links, adding and updating as we can. It will be a good sized undertaking.

However the important news is this. The use of added links and mentions in a set of blogs, and having a better start on keywords and meta data during the last several weeks has already shown an improvement in both visits to the site and the ALEXA ratings.  I am particularly surprised by ALEXA - where PCFixes.com was at 21,162,532 when we started the process in late June this year, it has been dropping and is now 19,856,236 on the evening of 7/15/2014.

"This is approximately 1.3 million higher in the Alexa list in less than three weeks. "

This is still of course saying that nearly 20 million sites are more popular - but that we are seeing this much improvement in a reasonably short time is still good and proves the techniques we are testing - much of which we see in messages from folks we have listed here in the links. Again not a get rich quick scheme but showing that with a bit of work in the right areas, we can start driving traffic (and usually improving profit) to our desired site.

We will have more as we get further into this - one of our examples we are working on currently. Hopefully we will have more good progress to show in a few more weeks.

PCFcooltext239237869414376Those of you who have been following PCFIXES for years know that it has had few updates in quite some time. My apologies for not keeping the various links and information updated, but I thought it best to put more effort on other work that put dinner on the table and paid the bills. Now I have been forced to slow down a bit due to my health issues and will be spending more time on this site and many others I have built up over the last dozen years or more.

Rather than say the new improved site is coming soon, and wait till its all done, I have decided to keep both the new site and the old running for the present time - and will be starting with the very basics of the new site, and then putting the updated versions in as they are in progress. This may be a bit confusing at times - and I ask that you hang in here with me as I do it - and you will hopefully be rewarded with a more modern site that can fit almost any device or screen.  The goal here, as it always has been, is "Helping you get more from your computer."  As always your opinions and suggestions are welcome.

 Free Mailing List

Pssst! - Would you like a short FREE email that lets you know when any useful changes are made to this site, and often a sample of the things sent in our full newsletter?  Often we include some good tips and links to good tech support, programming, or BBS related websites?

I thought so, but since I can not send mail to lots of addresses very easily by manual methods, and since many of the estimated 350,000+ surfers who have visited this site didn't email me with questions and leave an address, then the use of a mailing list server is practical answer.  Read on please!

Joining the mailing list is almost painless.. takes only a tiny bit of effort on your part and can help in at least two ways.

  • You will get a E-mail - not too often - that may point out an answer you were looking for or tell you of a site you can benefit from.

  •  I get a bit of statistical information that helps me to know more about the audience so I can better shape the contents here.

You will receive an email confirming your joining the mailing list, and you must reply to it so that the system accepts you. If no reply is received, the system will not add your email address to the list. This is done to help stop those rascals that might put someone's email address in without them knowing it.
